POL98 and T2A

Greetings!
If I could only take a moment of your time with a problem of mine:
I am trying to run T2A on a POL98 sever, but everytime I attack something, the client hangs as if I got disconnected. I've tried all clients <= 3.0.0 as well as some newer ones (some of them don't get past character selection).
Is it possible to run T2A on POL98?
Can I please get any recommendations regarding the lightest version of UO to use with POL98?
