8th age Journal won't open

Post by OldnGrey »

I have a few players now that have 8th Age installed.
They seem to have a problem where they cannot open the journal.

I don't have 8th Age so I can't test it.
Anyone got any experience with this?

Our shard runs the v4.0.3d client over the top.

Thanks in advance.

Does it generally don't open or are they perhaps just irritated cause the Journal button is no longer on the Player Gump?

Journal button got moved to the menubar. If you dont have it, its in the options under the mouse tab in 2D (Interface Options) Uncheck Disable Menu Bar.

If your players are hitting the Journal button or hotkey for it and it wont open or opens in many scattered pieces, tell your players to go to the options and set a hotkey to the command CloseGumps (its in the selection somewhere) have them use it and it should close everything on their UO and reset all of them. This is actually a conflict in running and trying to open the journal in different versions sometimes. Its just an instability with UO.

Interesting that you are posting this; I've had a few players recently tell me that since doing a UO patch, they've started to be unable to open the journal. As you noted, we, too use a specific client version (4.0.1 something, as I recall - I removed the version display from the client so I don't remember exactly), so it doesn't seem likely it's a trouble specifically with the client version itself, though it could still be an issue with compatability with other files.

Some of them seem to have been able to 'fix' the problem by deleting some client files... desktop, macros or config, I'm not yet sure.

As I said, we are using the 4.0.3d client (I should have pointed out that it still has the Journal button on the paperdoll).

We had someone totally delete the desktop folder, but that hasn't helped (it is the way to get that scattered journal effect to be fixed) but it pre-supposes that it has worked in the first place.

CWO: I will get them to try that CloseGumps macro and report back.

Thanks. A lot of players patch to the latest OSI with all sorts of UO installations and a lot of shards run earlier clients... so it will be useful to make a solution public for the record.

Does it open with the Alt-J macro?

Assuming OldnGrey's players are having the same trouble as some of my players, no; it won't open with Alt-J, or whatever their open journal macro is.

However, the fix posted above regarding creating a "close gumps" macro and using it once, did fix the issue for a couple players of mine with this trouble.

I think i had this problem some time ago. If i remember it right, it happens when your client version is higher than your installation.
I think it was a AOS installation and i used a client from SE. If you patch your files, it should solve the problem except you are using an own older gumpart.mul
