Line of Sight problems with 097 rc2

Post by OldnGrey »

My shard is now live with 097 and the good news is that it works well with a few little pleasant surprises (serendipity?).

However there is one important issue to report that is causing me a lot of grief. Fix this soon and my life would be ever so much simpler. I'd even guarantee some beer if required.

Character height. This was changed 2 core releases ago. It now causes a few problems:

* all the listxxnearlocationxx functions now do not return items below approx the player's standing height. ie the Z capture range is higher off the ground because the player height is more. I have to tell it to ignore Z for looting to work! This isn't good as my terrain is uneven.

* there is now less headroom. This messes up some badly made houses where there is not at least 20 z between floor and ceiling. It worked fine on older cores. Fixes will involve releasing new house statics - ouch.

* ladders don't work again. Darn it, this was a real improvement over 095 before it broke again!

This effects 096.5 as well I believe.
Is there any chance of an emergency release for this?

which release still have this problem? is it a result of

Code: Select all

1-1 MuadDib
Fixed : Few instances still using older Character Height of 9.
? is it a core-only problem, or is it solvable using an older uoconvert?

I didn't see a note in the core-changes telling us what player height is now but I am sure it was set to something else 2 cores ago. I think MuadD'ib would know if he ever takes a break from his job.

What do I look for in uoconvert? I am not sure how this would help.

It is not solvable using an older uo convert, atleast the ladder issue I posted about is not. The bug IS core related and exists in the last two (2) beta 0.97 core releases.

mm, yeh character height is causing lotsa problem. like the sewers in brit. u cant move when u walk onto the raised ledge near it.

Maybe there could be an option in servspecopt.cfg EnableNewCharHeight 1/0.

I personally don't have a use for a higher char height as it was fine in 095. Out of interest what problems did a 9 height have in 095? Apart from 15 being "more realistic" :P

That's what I was wondering. Why was this broken when it was fine before?

I can add that this became a problem for us too, when we upgraded from 96.3 to 96.5.

I hope there will be released a "fix" for pol96 too, since all ladders, and as mentioned brit sewers, are now bugged.

Evidently even promising beer wasn't enough.
What does it take to coerce the devs to release the patch?
